I hope by now you have been converted to the new cleaning bucket supplies. As someone who does a lot of cleaning, at home and at other's homes, I can attest to the amount of savings you will get and your house will still sparkle! Those are two things I like to see in the same sentence!

So now, I want to offer you an alternative to all the laundry detergent. Even the generic brand can cost you an upwards of $8-10 a bottle and up to $15 for name brand. For two people, I do about 3-4 loads of laundry a week, and that doesn't count the fact that we have to wash my husband's work uniforms every three days. So detergent adds up fast! These four simple ingredients will give you 94 loads of laundry PLUS 14 or so loads in the dishwasher.

Here is what you'll need:

Washing Soda

Borax

Bar of soap (This is my favorite)

Baking Soda

Laundry Detergent

Recipe:
First, grate the bar soap (I use the finer grated edges as I find the soap dissolves better).
Equal parts of washing soda and borax and grated soap. 1:1:1 (To make in bigger batches, simply double it!)
Mix well!
You only need 1-2 tablespoons PER LOAD. You'll be amazed how easy this is!

In a microwave safe bowl, add water and a lemon that has been halved or quartered. (Make sure to leave an inch or so at the top of the bowl so your water doesn't boil over!)

Microwave the water for 3-5 minutes and let sit for 5 minutes. Remove the bowl and with a damp cloth, wipe clean! The water will create a steam as it boils and the steam will break down any food particles that are on the surface. The acid from the lemon also aids in breaking down the particles (plus it smells good!). If your microwave is really yucky and this doesn't work the first time, just repeat the cycle.

You can use other citrus in place of the lemon if you don't have one on hand. For a little extra smell good, add a cinnamon stick to the water too.

Happy Cleaning!

PS. Have you made over your cleaning bucket yet!? Tell me how it worked! I have cleaned my house multiple times, and someone else's house and I still haven't had to buy any supplies yet! And 9 times out of 10, they all work the same. They also cost so MUCH MONEY. I had all purpose cleaner with bleach, windex, comet, another all purpose cleaner without bleach, furniture polish, oven cleaner, countertop spray...just to name a few! I'm not saying that these cleaners don't work, but they are laden with chemicals and are hard on your hands, your nose, and your home. As a business owner, I wanted to give my personal cleaning bucket a makeover and put "all natural" cleaners to the test. These cleaners are comprised of only two or three ingredients each and I'm happy to report THEY WORK.

Here are my cleaning supplies now:

From left to right - Baking Soda, White Vinegar, Ammonia, Lemon Juice and Rubbing Alcohol.

I already had a couple of other things on hand to make up my new cleaning solutions like Original Dawn Dish Soap and Olive Oil. And now I have three bottles of cleaning supplies to clean my entire house. You will need to buy the clear plastic bottles but you only have to buy these once! I purchased these supplies at Walmart and they totaled right around $8. I'm going to get at 2-3 months use out of them! Needless to say, you'll be seeing these cleaning supplies in a ProClean bucket soon too. I can't wait to show you all the power of common household items and a clean home!

These are my cleaning products now!
So simple!

Here are the recipes you'll need to make over your cleaning buckets too!

Strong All Purpose Cleaner

This all purpose cleaner can fight grease, soap scum and hard water. It's great to clean your showers and as a toilet bowl cleaner.

Mix in a sprayer bottle:

1 T clear, non-sudsing ammonia

1 T clear laundry detergent or original Dawn (I used Dawn)

2 cups water

To use as a toilet bowl cleaner, spray down the bowl very liberally and wait a few minutes. Clean with a brush. Use a pumice stone and undiluted white vinegar for hard water stains.

Glass Cleaner

Mix in a sprayer bottle:

1 cup rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol

1 cup water

1 tablespoon white vinegar

Counter Top Spray

Great for cleaning your kitchen and bath countertops (also works as an all purpose)

Mix in a sprayer bottle:

1 cup white vinegar

1 cup water

In the kitchen, use vinegar-and-water spray to clean countertops, lightly soiled range surfaces and backsplash areas.

In the bathroom, use vinegar spray cleaner to clean countertops, floors, and exterior surfaces of the toilet.

For shower walls with tough hard water stains, take the sprayer off and heat up the solution until barely hot. Spray down the shower wall generously and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Scrub and rinse.

More tricks and tips:

Undiluted vinegar can be used for many things (and don't worry, the vinegar smell goes away after it dries. I promise! Use a cup of vinegar with your rinse cycle instead of commercial fabric softener. It softens clothes and removes excess detergent and hard water. Soak your showerheads and grimy bathroom sink drains in a solution of undiluted vinegar and a couple of tablespoons of baking soda for a couple of hours and get all the hard water deposits and stains off. Your showerhead will look brand new again!

Speaking of baking soda....

Baking Soda is a girl's best friend for use as an abrasive. Sprinkle a little on a damp sponge to clean grimy drains or faucets. Rinse with hot water. For tougher stuff, make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply and let sit to the area for 10-20 minutes. Dirt, soap scrum and grime are easier to remove this way. For a free flowing drain, dump about 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain and add a few drops of water. Let sit for about 15-20 minutes. Add a 1/2 cup - 1 cup of vinegar. It will foam up (which is fun to watch!). Let this solution sit for a few minutes and then run extremely hot water in the drain for a few minutes. Do this once a month for preventative maintenance! (This does not work on blocked drains)

Lemon Juice acts as a dirt remover AND has a mild bleaching effect. Our bathtub can get dirty and black. I spray straight lemon juice on it, sprinkle with baking soda and let it sit for a few minutes. Then with a sponge, I scrub it down and rinse. You'll be surprised how well it works!!

Mix olive oil and lemon juice together -

1 cup olive oil

1/2 cup lemon juice

and use it as furniture polish! Or, add it to your salad. Either way...I bet you never thought you could EAT your furniture polish!

I hope you find these little tips super useful, money saving and convenient. I know I have! Let me know how your cleaning bucket makeovers go for you! Out with the chemicals and in with easy, cheap and clean household products!

Wishing you a sparkly day,

Courtney

A Daily Cleaning Checklist

https://www.procleanrexburg.com/blog/a-daily-cleaning-checklist

https://www.procleanrexburg.com/blog/a-daily-cleaning-checklist#comments

Uncategorized

Spending a few minutes every day to tidy up can save you a lot of time in the future, not to mention peace of mind on a daily basis that your house is clean! Namely - a roommate who never does the dishes. What is a girl (or guy) to do when this evil happens to you? Surely you are never guilty of doing the same. I mean, you're the cleanest person you know. You are always taking out the trash, and always doing the dishes.

Here's the deal. You're not perfect, and neither are your roommates. So get over it and just do the dishes for them!! (And if you really don't want to and have some extra cash lying around, hire us!) Think of it as your good deed for the day....even if it's the tenth or one hundredth day in a row. Your roommate notices and they appreciate it. They might also take you for granted and not even notice, but in the end, who really cares? If it really bothers you, say something about it.

So now that you've decided to be a dishwashing good samaritan...why not a step by step of doing the dishes "how-to"?

Step One: If you have a dishwasher, unload it. If you don't know where everything goes, then sort them out on the counter or table for everyone to put away their own things.

Step Two: Leave the pots and pans out to be hand washed. Non-stick pans lose their coating in the dishwasher...even if they are supposedly "dishwasher safe". (I recommend a dish drying rack as an essential purchase for any college apartment.) Put glasses, cups and smaller items on the top rack and dishes, bakeware, etc on the bottom rack.

Step Three: Wash the pots and pans by hand with either a sponge or a kitchen brush. Place the used sponge or brush on the top rack or in the silverware holder in the dishwasher after you've washed the pots and pans. Start the dishwasher!

Step Four: Wipe down the counters and sink.

Step Five: Relax :)

ProClean's Solution Center:

Does your dishwasher leave a grimy film on all of your dishes?
